Tudor Picture Restorations provides conservation and restoration services for oil paintings and gilded objects by specialised professionals. Paintings include easel pictures, oils on canvas or wood and mural size paintings, we offer a comprehensive service specialising solely in oil paintings (watercolours and prints more properly fall within the remit of paper conservators), we undertake picture cleaning, re-linings, canvas patching (where small tears and dents are apparent), re-varnishing and the re-stretching of paintings. As well as oils on canvas, pictures on artist’s board or on panel (even if the board or panels have been split or broken) can be restored. We also treat other painted art objects such as polychrome sculpture and furniture.

Gilded objects include picture and mirror frames, icons and even furniture. All types of re-moulding carried out on the ornamentation's of frames and also to include a wide variety of re-gilding in gold or metal leaf, re-joining, and gesso work. Any restoration work can be toned with all types of coloured washes and patina effects to blend seamlessly with the original finish of the frame.

This is the only studio in the Luton Bedfordshire area able to provide the conservation / restoration of both paintings and their frames by professional staff on the premises, and it is one of the few studios that routinely handles traditional (wax and resin based) canvas re-linings. We also work on-site to inspect collections, assess treatment priorities and to restore pictures or other in situ objects.
